>Looks like the Ipod is making headlines again. This time for being the cause of fatal accidents.
New York State Sen. Carl Kruger says three pedestrians in his Brooklyn district have been killed since September upon stepping into traffic while distracted by an electronic device. In one case bystanders screamed “watch out” to no avail.
Officials are trying to set up a fining system to discourage the public from crossing the street while using Ipods and other electronic devices such as Blackberries and cell phones. If this is passed, New Yorkers may soon be looking at $100 fine.
>trust me, this is another political much ado about nothing (no disrespect to the deceased). if you ever lived in new york city or even the burroughs bronx, brooklyn, queens, staten island or even long island or new jersey, traffic and noise are synonymous. many pedestrians are injured or killed by motorist by two factors. pedestrians and/or motorist not paying attention to what they are doing. banning ipods, cell phones or other portable listening devices are not going to change the accident rate involving the two factors.

>I guess there were no personal music listening devices before the Ipod? Are these people nuts? Didn't the Walkman hit the streets in the 80's?
